Sejong University (세종대학교, 世宗大學校) is a private university located in Seoul, South Korea. The history of Sejong University dates to 1940 when a trust established the Kyung Sung Humanities Institute. In 1978, the academy was named Sejong University in honor of Sejong the Great, the fourth king of the Chosun Dynasty and overseer of the Korean alphabet Hangeul.
Sejong University has nine colleges: College of Liberal Arts, College of Social Sciences, College of Business Administration, College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, College of Natural Sciences, College of Life Sciences, College of Electronics and Information Engineering, College of Engineering, and College of Arts and Physical Education, and has a Faculty of General Education and seven graduate schools.
The history of Sejong University began in May 1940 when the Kyung Sung Humanities Institute was founded by Dr. Youngha Choo and Dr. Okja Choi. In 1954 the school became Soodo Women Teachers' College. In 1979 Soodo Women Teachers' College changed its name to Sejong College and admitted male undergraduates for the first time. After that, in October 1987 Sejong College grew into Sejong University, consisting of five colleges with an enrollment of 6,000 students. Now, Sejong University is known for its standing in hospitality and tourism management, dancing, animation and rhythmic gymnastics. The College of Arts and Physical Education and the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management are top ranked in the country.
Sejong University’s wooded 118,262 m2 campus is located at 98 Gunja-dong, Gwangjin-gu, in eastern Seoul north of the Han river, the capital of South Korea. Located directly across from the Seoul Children’s Grand Park, the campus consists of 23 buildings, including the Sejong Private Elementary School building and the Student Center. The campus is a showcase of buildings built in Korean traditional styles.

The Central Library is the heart of the university academic program. Since the library was founded in 1949, it has been dramatically developed in many ways.
Our library occupies a floor of 5, 237 pyeong(20,707 sq.yds)with 3,270 seats. More than 740,000 volumes of books and 183 PCs are distributed throughout the ten-story library building. Our library consists of a variety of specialized rooms:Electronic Information, Reference, Theses, Assignment, Periodicals, Language & Literature, Social Science, Humanities, Natural Science and Arts. The reading room is open 09:00 to 22:00 on Monday through Friday, 09:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays and closed on Sundays & holidays.
Sejong University Museum
The Sejong University Museum provides visitors with an opportunity to view relics related to Korean culture, traditional art, and history. The Sejong University Museum participates in excavations and archeological research.
Sejong University Observatory
The Sejong University Observatory was founded on Sept.1, 1989 to conduct research, foster interest in modern astronomy, and develop an advanced science research infrastructure.
